SPIELBERG, Austria -- Felipe Massa felt like he was kick-starting his Formula One career after earning his first pole position since 2008 as Williams stunned Mercedes in Austrian Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday. Mattias Janmark Jersey . Massa and Williams teammate Valtteri Bottas posted the two fastest times, setting up the first race of the season without Mercedes in the front row. Championship leader Nico Rosberg was third, while Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton went off track in the final qualifying round and will start ninth. "After a long time that I couldnt be in this place, I hope this is the beginning of some great possibilities again," Massa said, adding he was "very emotional." Its Massa 16th career pole but first since the Brazilian GP six years ago. Williams had not had a 1-2 in qualifying since the German GP in 2003. "It was such a great moment," said the Brazilian, who has won 11 races in his career. "It was a very long time when I had my last pole position." Massas fastest lap on the 4.3-kilometre Red Bull Ring was 1 minute, 8.759 seconds, 0.087 ahead of Bottas. Rosberg came another 0.098 back. Hamilton had one time scratched as all four of his wheels crossed the sideline in turn eight, while he came off track again and spun at his final attempt to beat Massa. Bottas led the final practice earlier Saturday, edging Hamilton by 0.05, while Massa came third to send out a warning to Mercedes, which had the pole in all seven previous races. "I am not totally suprised," Williams deputy team boss Claire Williams said. "This track suits us with the long straights." According to Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff, Williams deserved the pole despite his team clearly dominating practice on Friday. "Williams has been faster on the long straights," Wolff said. "Its good for the sport, though we are a bit upset." Red Bulls Daniel Ricciardo, who ended Mercedes six-race winning streak in Montreal two weeks ago, was fifth but teammate and four-time champion Sebastian Vettel will start 12th. Its the sixth time in eight races where Ricciardo beat his German teammate in qualifying. Vettel failed to reach the final qualifying round for a third time this season as Red Bull kept struggling with the tire temperature management. Vettel had the 13th time but gained one spot as 11th-place Force India driver Perez loses five places as a penalty following his crash with Massa in Montreal. "Its simple, we are just not fast enough," Vettel said. "You saw we had problems Friday and we expected to do better today. Its definitely not what you wish for ... Sometimes you go a step forward and sometimes you go one back." Jenson Button also missed the last qualifying round and will start just ahead of Vettel. Button, the 2009 champion, had to quit the session after just four laps because of a problem with the rear brakes of his McLaren. Curtis McKenzie Jersey . He liked what he saw on Tuesday night. Not only did his team post a comeback 3-2 victory in a shootout over the Montreal Canadiens, but the rival Washington Capitals were beaten 5-1 in Buffalo. Brian Flynn Jersey . Virtanen opened the scoring at 6:45 of the first period, then gave Canada a two-goal lead with a power-play goal 1:03 into the second. Sweden cut the lead in half when Daniel Muzito Bagenda scored a power-play goal at 10:57 of the second. http://www.hockeystarsonline.com/adidas+martin+hanzal+stars+jersey . Ted Ligety, Mikaela Shiffrin, Bode Miller and Tim Jitloff underlined the squads enormous potential on the Rettenbach glacier in Austria.Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Jones scored 22 points and helped key a huge Louisville run to begin the second half that lifted the fifth- ranked Cardinals to a hard-earned 58-52 victory over Clemson. Louisville (14-1, 2-0 ACC) was down 22-18 at halftime after shooting a woeful 22.2 percent over the first 20 minutes, but went on a 17-0 tear following the intermission and never trailed again in its first conference home game as an ACC member. Terry Rozier netted six of his 15 points during the pivotal spurt, while Jones had all but two of his points in the second half. Wayne Blackshear added 11 points for Louisville, but finished 3-of-13 from the floor. The Cardinals shot just 32.7 percent for the game, but held Clemson to a 30.8 percent success rate in a defensive slugfest. Clemson (8-6, 0-2), coming off a 24-point home loss to No. 18 North Carolina on Saturday, was led by Jaron Blossomgames 15 points. Damarcus Harrison finished with 12 in defeat. After recording a mere six field goals in 27 attempts prior to the break, the Cardinals matched that number in less than 4 1/2 minutes during their game- changing sequence. Blackshear got it started with a 3-pointer on Louisvilles initial possession and Rozier sank a go-ahead layup in transition on the Cardinals next trip down the court. Montrezl Harrell followed with a thunderous putback dunk, and another Rozier layup preceded Jones triple that staked Louisville to a 30-22 lead just 3:36 into the period. Harrell threw down another jam to cap the run and put the Cardinals up by a 35-22 count with 13:27 left to play. Clemson finally regrouped, witth Harrison and Blossomgame knocking down consecutive treys to ignite a 9-0 push that cut the margin to four. Brian Bellows Jersey. Jones answered with back-to-back 3-pointers, but the Tigers countered with an 8-0 stretch to pull within 42-40 with six minutes to go. Louisville then turned it up a notch on the defensive end, as Clemson didnt make another basket until Donte Granthams layup with 41 seconds left. The Cardinals outscored the Tigers 9-2 in between, while sealing the outcome by hitting 10-of-12 foul shots in the final minute. After going 50 percent or better from the field in wins over Long Beach State and Wake Forest that preceded Wednesdays test, Louisville misfired on 11 of its first 15 attempts in this one. The Cardinals problems were compounded with Harrell, the teams second- leading scorer, on the bench for most of the first half after picking up two quick fouls on a night he was held to a season-low six points. Louisville was still able to keep it close behind its defense. However, the Tigers ended the frame on an 8-2 run, which Blossomgame and Harrison started with consecutive 3-pointers, to enter the break owning a slim 22-18 edge. Game Notes Louisville went 4-of-10 from 3-point range in the second half after a 2-of-14 display in the first ... Jones had five of the Cardinals 11 steals ... Clemson has averaged just 56.2 points over its past five games ... The Cardinals have won all four all-time meetings with Clemson, the most recent of which took place in the second round of the 2006 NIT Tournament ... The Tigers have now lost 23 of their last 24 matchups against top five teams.
