There comes a time in every athlete's career when they must retire from the sport they participate in. This is inevitable Chuma Edoga Jersey , and happens at the conclusion of every season. The reasons why however, are murkier than one may suspect. There are plenty of variables; age, quality of play, disputes with the front office, etc. The same holds true in the NFL http://www.jetsfootballauthentics.com/trevon-wesco-jersey-authentic , and with a sport so inherently violent and injury-riddled, many of these annual retirements come as a bit of a surprise to fans and analysts. Often, this includes players who seemingly had several years left of productivity, but just decided to hang up the cleats. And there will be plenty of names that fall into that category at the conclusion of the 2016 NFL season. It's a time when many players take a step back and analyze their career up to the current moment, and because of this recollection Clelin Ferrell Jersey , they might decide to step away from the game. After all, the sport is constantly getting younger, and a veteran player may not feel they are up to the task anymore. Every season takes a toll on any given player, and for some, they've added up to the point where retirement seems like the most logical career move.Ranked below are 15 players that will be gone from the NFL next season. Super Bowl LIII will be here before we know it at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta http://www.raidersfootballauthentics.com/josh-jacobs-jersey-authentic , Georgia. On February 3rd, 2019, the two best teams in the NFL will go head to head in the ultimate battle. The question becomes, who plays in that game? Right now, it may seem clear Kyler Murray Jersey , but things change as the season progresses. We are still half a season away that could be filled with injuries and changes to the roster. The roster changes should be minimal considering the trade deadline just passed. Even with the deadline being a thing of the past, a lot can change between now and February. We will take a look at which teams are the frontrunners to play in the Super Bowl so far. There’s always those favorites, so we’re going to pick the 10 most likely to make it to the Super Bowl. Some may seem obvious, while others may come as a surprise. On the other end of things, we’re going to take a look at 10 teams some had initially pegged as contenders that have no shot going to the Super Bowl. It’s disappointing to think that way so far in advance http://www.cardinalsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-byron-murphy-jersey , but some teams just don’t have what it takes to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. What is very exciting to think about, is we are so far along in the football season to discuss potential Super Bowl candidates. Obviously, analysts do this all season long, but we have had a long look at a lot of these teams. It will be fun to see how they perform moving forward.

NEW YORK (AP) – A new exhibit at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum highlights the impact of sports after the 2001 attacks, including the Mets’ win in New York’s first major sporting event after 9/11.
”Comeback Season: Sports After 9/11” explores how sports helped unite the country and features interviews with athletes such as Hall of Fame catcher Mike Piazza.
”In that first game back, the home team came back and won,” said Piazza, whose two-run homer for the Mets in the eighth inning on Sept. 21, 2001, lifted the team past Atlanta. ”That’s exactly the lesson the city, the country and the world needed to see that night.”
Carol Gies attended that game with her three sons and celebrated the moment in the stands. Her firefighter husband, Lt. Ronnie Gies, died in the attacks on the World Trade Center.
”When that ball went over the wall, I saw my children smile for the very first time since they lost their dad,” she said in an oral history recording.
The exhibit covers various sports, including football, hockey, basketball, soccer, NASCAR, the New York City Marathon and the 2002 Winter Olympics. The story is told in nine chapters, using archival sports footage and testimonies from athletes, coaches and 9/11 families.
It opens with the U.S. Open final of Venus vs. Serena Williams on the weekend before the attacks. It moves through the cancellation of events, including the first stoppage of Major League Baseball since the death of President Franklin Roosevelt in 1945.
So is Pat Tillman’s Army Ranger uniform, on loan from the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Tillman, an Arizona Cardinal player, enlisted after 9/11 and died in Afghanistan.
New York Rangers Mike Richter, Eric Lindros and Mark Messier are pictured during a visit to thank rescue workers at ground zero on Sept. 16.
There’s a quote from Mets manager Bobby Valentine: ”When we went down there the first time, you could still smell it. You could still feel it. You could see the filth on the faces of the workers. When they saw us, their faces lit up. You could see their teeth through their black masks.”
A letter from 10-year-old Brielle Saracini to Derek Jeter dated Sept. 14 is on display. She explains to her favorite player that her father, Victor Saracini, was a pilot of hijacked Flight 175 that crashed into the south tower. Soon after, Jeter called to invite Brielle, her sister and mother to a game.
In the World Series, the Yankees hosted the Arizona Diamondbacks among heightened security for Games 3, 4, 5 at Yankee Stadium, just 14 miles from ground zero. Video shows Jeter hitting a walk-off home run in Game 4 and jumping into the arms of teammates at home plate.
Michael Jordan is pictured with members of the military before a Washington Wizards vs. Knicks game at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 30. Jordan had pledged his entire year’s salary to the 9/11 relief effort.
”Through the lens of sports, this exhibition celebrates the strength of the human spirit and our capacity to come together and support one another through unimaginable grief,” 9/11 Memorial & Museum President Alice M. Greenwald said. ”This story provides additional points of entry into the complex story of 9/11 to better understand our history and the impact it had on our world today, to reflect on our own lived memories from that time and to feel inspired by stories about the best of humanity.”
The exhibit was sponsored in part through the support of the Anheuser-Busch Foundation, MLB, the New York Mets and their chief operating officer, Jeff Wilpon. It runs through the summer of 2019.
The list of players sitting out this weekend’s conference championships is almost as impressive as the starting lineups: Julian Edelman. Carson Wentz. Dalvin Cook. Dont’a Hightower. Allen Robinson. Sam Bradford.
Following the NFL’s season of carnage that claimed the likes of Trysten Hill Jersey , among others, Aaron Rodgers, Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, J.J. Watt, DeShaun Watson, Odell Beckham Jr. and Joe Thomas, this year’s final four all overcame not only the odds – ”Minneapolis Miracle , anyone?” – but devastating injuries to key starters.
”We have a tough and resilient team,” Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long said of the NFC’s top seed , which is missing its second-year QB in Wentz, an MVP hopeful when he blew out a knee in December.
Even before Wentz’s injury thrust backup Nick Foles into the starting job for the playoffs, the Eagles lost nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters, playmaking middle linebacker Jordan Hicks, versatile return specialist Darren Sproles, and special teams captain Chris Maragos.
Yet, here they are, 60 minutes from Minneapolis and Super Bowl 52.
So do the Minnesota Vikings, who are trying to reach their first Super Bowl in more than four decades and fulfill the mantra to ”Bring it Home” and become the first NFL team to play the title game in its own stadium.
And they’re doing so behind Case Keenum, who crashed Tom Brady’s playoff party along with fellow perennial backup Foles and Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles.
Together, the four quarterbacks left standing have a combined five Super Bowl rings, two NFL MVP awards and four Super Bowl MVP trophies. Brady, of course, owns all of that hardware himself.
Such is the panorama of these playoffs following a season of pain in which so many superstars were rendered sideline spectators with broken bones, snapped ligaments, torn muscles.
Keenum replaced an injured Bradford, who had replaced an injured Teddy Bridgewater. Bradford, now back in uniform as Keenum’s backup, blew out a knee in the first month of the season, as did rookie running back in Cook, who needed reconstructive surgery to repair a torn ACL.
Behind resilient coach Mike Zimmer , who resisted the urge to quit just before he got the Vikings’ head coaching gig in 2014, Minnesota rolled right along. Keenum deftly took over for Bradford, and Jerick McKinnon and Latavius Murray became a productive backfield tandem.
”We’ve got a bunch of fighters on this team,” Zimmer said. ”They’ve been a resilient bunch all year long. I expect it to continue to be that way.”
The Patriots are also a bunch of fighters; they reached their seventh straight AFC title game despite losing Edelman, Brady’s top target, to a torn ACL in the preseason, and Hightower to a torn chest muscle in November.
Play caller Josh McDaniels and Brady Tony Pollard Jersey , who led New England to a fifth Super Bowl title last year despite the absence of Rob Gronkowski, adjusted accordingly to Edelman’s absence with another terrific year.
Linebacker Kyle Van Noy stepped in for Hightower and ranked third on the team with 73 tackles and second with 5+ sacks despite missing three of the final five games with a calf injury.
Van Noy’s sack total was just a half-sack shy of Hightower’s career high set in 2014.
”The thing about K.V. is he’s very versatile,” said Patriots safety and defensive captain Devin McCourty. ”So we’ve used him a bunch of different ways. … He’s been a big asset to our team.”
The Jaguars are the healthiest of the remaining playoff teams. They have only one opening-day starter on injured reserve: former Pro Bowl receiver Robinson, who tore his left ACL on Jacksonville’s opener.
Four months removed from reconstructive surgery, Robinson is now traveling with the team, so he’ll be on the sideline Sunday at New England, serving as a mentor to a raw receiving corps.
”Every person in this locker room put in a lot of work to get to this point, with me being one of them,” said Robinson, who was poised for another big year after dominating the league’s best secondary in training camp.
His injury on Jacksonville’s third offensive snap created a huge void for the offense. Marqise Lee and Allen Hurns tried to pick up the slack, but they ended up on the sideline at one point with injuries, too, leaving rookies Keelan Cole and Dede Westbrook to assume bigger roles.
Cole, an undrafted rookie from tiny Kentucky Wesleyan, had 42 catches for 748 yards and three scores in the regular season. He added a clutch 45-yard catch that set up a late TD in Jacksonville’s 45-42 stunner at Pittsburgh last week.
”I wish I could just wake up tomorrow and feel like I did Sept. 9,” Robinson said, ”but I understand it’s going to be a process. I know I’ll be back to that point and better.”
Like so many other stars, Robinson will be in street clothes Sunday, cheering on his teammates in hopes of getting a sideline pass to the Super Bowl.
ST. PETERSBURG Nick Bosa Jersey , Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays continue to win games they perhaps shouldn’t, and they’ll have an opportunity for more of that Saturday against Houston’s Justin Verlander.
The Rays (40-41) hit the midway point of their 2018 season with a 3-2 win over Houston, giving them six wins in their last seven games. Their pitching has led the way — three times in the last four games, they have held their opponent to three hits or less, this after doing so only three times in the first 77 games of this season.
“If we are going to win a lot of game and we are going to string a bunch together, we have to have good pitching,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “The timely hitting is great, but we have to stay in the ballgame. For us to have allowed three runs in 18 innings against arguably the best team in baseball Dwayne Haskins Jersey , we should find a way to win one.”
Houston will send Verlander, who has been dominant (9-3, 1.82 ERA) but has gotten surprisingly little run support from a potent Astros lineup.
Houston is just 11-7 in games he starts, and the Astros have scored a total of two runs in five of those losses.
So Saturday could look like Thursday’s 1-0 Astros win, or could look like Friday’s 3-2 loss, which saw two errors factor in Tampa Bay’s scoring.
Verlander faced the Rays just 11 days ago in Houston, again pitching well, allowing one run on six hits in 6 2/3 innings http://www.ravenscheapstores.com/marquise-brown-jersey-cheap , but ultimately taking a no-decision in a 2-1 loss. He has 136 strikeouts in 113 innings this season and a ridiculous 0.81 WHIP.
Against the Rays for his career, Verlander is 8-3 with a 3.18 ERA, but since 2010, he’s just 4-3, despite a 1.72 ERA in his last five starts against the Rays. At Tropicana Field, he’s 5-2 all-time with a 2.53 ERA, including a 1.20 ERA in his last two outings.
The Rays counter with reliever-turned-starter Ryne Stanek, who has thrived in the “opener” role that Tampa Bay has essentially created in the past six weeks. He’s starting for the second time in three days against the Astros having thrown 1 2/3 innings of scoreless Jaylon Ferguson Jersey , hitless baseball Thursday night. For the month of June, he’s pitched in 11 games and 14 2/3 innings without allowing a run.
He’s held opponents to just four hits, lowering his season ERA to 1.85, just barely above Verlander’s.
The Astros know they have to be careful with the white ceiling of Tropicana Field — the Rays’ three-run fourth inning got a spark Friday when center fielder Jake Marisnick couldn’t hold onto a pop at the warning track, allowing a run to score.
“When you play here, you try to not take your eye off the ball,” Marisnick said. “With the ceiling, I kind of glanced quickly at the ball Quinnen Williams Jersey , then looked back up and lost track. I wasn’t able to come up with it. That’s a play I need to make 10 out of 10 times.”
The Houston Texans have released veteran linebacker Brian Cushing.
Cushing, who was a first-round pick in 2009, is the franchise’s all-time leader in tackles with 664, but his career has been marked by two suspensions for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancers.
Cushing was suspended for the first four games of 2010 after testing positive for HCG, a fertility drug that is on the league’s banned substance list. Cushing had won 2009 Defensive Rookie of the Year, an honor which was jeopardized by the suspension. He kept the award after a revote by The Associated Press’ awards panel.
Article continues below ... His second suspension came in September and cost him 10 games. He appeared in five games last season and finished with 16 tackles and 1 sacks.
Cushing has had several major injuries in his career and played 12 games combined in 2012 and 2013 because of knee injuries and a broken leg. He missed three games in 2016 because of a sprained knee ligament and sustained a concussion in Houston’s season opener against the Jaguars last season.
He had more than 100 tackles in three seasons, led by 133 in his rookie year, and is fifth in franchise history with 42 tackles for losses. He also had 13 sacks http://www.cowboyscheapauthenticstore.com/trysten-hill-jersey-cheap , eight interceptions, 30 passes defended, 57 quarterback hits, nine forced fumbles and one safety in his nine seasons in Houston.
He should Youth Greg Olsen Jersey , but that doesn’t mean Panthers fans have to root for just a boring winning streak"I don’t think Ron Rivera was trying to channel an unflattering meme when he said that “all you need is a chance” during his press conference this morning. His reference was to the fact that the Panthers season is not mathematically over. As desperate as many Panthers fans feel for change, whether it be on or off the field, the idea of looking at the playoffs on the heels of a five game losing stretch seems a little pie eyed, at best. But that is, for better or worse Blue Devin Funchess Jersey , Rivera’s job. He is supposed to try to seize opportunities and maximize his team’s chances for success. In 2018, that means following any path to the playoffs that still exists. The Panthers do not, at present, control their own destiny. Their path to the playoffs requires a loss by the Minnesota Vikings and a loss by Washington. They also can’t realistically lose another game. All of this things are technically possible. As Rivera said, all you need is a chance. To calculate that chance Devin Funchess Jersey 2019 , FiveThirtyEight has a fun tool to predict the playoffs. You can tell it who you think will win what games and it will tell you how that affects a team’s chances. For example, the Panthers currently stand at a nine percent chance to make the playoffs by their metrics. A win against New Orleans on Monday Night Football changes that to a 24% chance. Winning out jumps them to a 75% chance, hinging on the likelihood that Minnesota and Washington drop at least one game apiece.Any loss by the Panthers becomes endlessly complicated. The tiebreakers this year in the NFC are spread across a range of teams with mixed and middling records. Until they are eliminated, we have to follow Rivera and company’s philosophy that there is a chance. What we don’t have to do, is get mired in the minutiae of those chances. Rooting for losses and wins across the league gets confusing. It’s Fantasy Playoff season Stitched Greg Olsen Jersey , I have enough conflicting loyalties as it is.Instead, I recommend playing with the calculator I linked above and picking a path that works for you. I am rooting for three ties for the Panthers. Each game will be impossibly stressful and ultimately hilarious, which is to say worth watching. Fivethirtyeight says there is a 4% chance of making the playoffs if the Panthers tie the Falcons once and the Saints twice in the final three weeks of the season. If all I need is a chance then I know which one I’m taking. The Panthers have issued today’s injury report for their Week 3 game against the Bengals and there’s good news—cornerback Donte Jackson returned to practice and is officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game.In other news, Trai Turner and Da’Norris Searcy are still in the concussion protocol. Curtis Samuel is still not practicing after his “minor” heart procedure but is working out, per Ron Rivera. But their archrival Browns couldn’t help them against the equally hated Ravens, and Pittsburgh (9-6-1) is out.“It just sucks,” Steelers guard David DeCastro said. “How hard we work, how much effort we put in. To go from 7-2-1 to where we are now is heartbreaking.”Nick Foles, who led the Eagles to the Super Bowl title over the Patriots in Minneapolis last February, guided them to a resounding 24-0 victory at Washington. Then the Bears helped out at Minnesota with a 24-10 win even though they had nothing to play for, being set as the NFC’s third seed.“We’re not sneaking in. The tournament is wide open and it’s my first playoff, so I’m just excited to get in and see how things go.”New England, meanwhile, will get a week off in early January for the 13th time since 2001, most in the NFL during that span. The Patriots routed the Jets 38-3, and because they defeated Houston during the season, they get the bye.“Eleven and five is nothing to be sad about,” Tom Brady said. “We fought pretty hard and put ourselves in good position.”
Falcons place Ricardo Allen on IR Youth Andy Levitre Jersey , sign LB Bruce Carter & S Sharrod Neasman The Falcons have officially placed starting FS Ricardo Allen on IR, ending his 2018 season. The team also made several other roster moves on Tuesday afternoon, including:Signed LB Bruce CarterSigned S Sharrod NeasmanWaived LB Richard JarvisRicardo Allen tore his achilles during the Falcons’ Week 3 match-up with the Saints. Allen signed a 3-year, $19.5M contract with the Falcons during training camp, and all of Atlanta hopes that he is able to return healthy for the start of the 2019 season. Achilles injuries are typically quite difficult to return from, however, so it’s possible that Allen may need additional time to return to full strength. The Falcons also signed LB Bruce Carter and S Sharrod Neasman to bolster the depth at both positions. Carter is a 7-year veteran who most recently played with Jets in 2017—he’s piled up 311 tackles, 5 sacks, 17 pass deflections, and 5 INTs during his career. Neasman was with the Falcons in 2017 as the primary back-up strong safety behind Keanu Neal. He played in 11 games for Atlanta last season, with only 2 total tackles. Neasman is familiar with the scheme and looked solid in limited playing time—hopefully, he can provide steady depth and will compete with Jordan Richards, Keith Tandy, and Kemal Ishmael for the starting role.Richard Jarvis has bounced between the active roster and the practice squad several times this season. The Falcons clearly like Jarvis as a developmental EDGE/LB, and I’d expect him to return to the practice squad if he clears waivers. What are your thoughts on these roster moves? Do you think the Falcons will get anything out of Bruce Carter and/or Sharrod Neasman? Who do you think should start among the Falcons current options at SS? It’s out there, but it could happen."Okay, let’s get wild. Who might the Falcons take? One of the Devins. Devin White is an LSU linebacker Stitched Jake Matthews Jersey , making him such a Dan Quinn pick that it almost cannot happen, and that’s before we even get to his athletic profile. White is fast, fluid, and has the makeup of a playmaker at the NFL level, even if his instincts and tackling lag behind. He could be—even should be—an impact player at the next level.Bush is a more refined player, and his ability in coverage and agility would make him a deeply intriguing fit for the Falcons. He’s also flashed as a pass rusher in college at times, and the Falcons can always use more help there.Beyond that, I’d be hard-pressed to see the Falcons going with a linebacker at 14, and we’re already way out in unlikely territory to begin with. What does it mean for the roster in 2019?You would expect to see the Falcons trotting out three linebackers more often, I’d wager, as there’s no real reason to believe they’re eager to get De’Vondre Campbell’s physicality off the field. Campbell, Deion Jones and either White or Bush would be a formidable, athletic group, and Foye Oluokun is a great insurance policy in any case. The Falcons would be a more capable run defense with that much speed on the field, for certain, but Bush and Jones in particular would be potent enough in coverage that the Falcons might be willing to test out true 4-3 fronts more often, even if it got Damontae Kazee off the field more often. What does it mean long-term?Interesting things. The Falcons are coming up on an extension for Campbell Youth Jake Matthews Jersey , who has been a quality starter the team will certainly try to extend. The addition of a linebacker at 14 would crowd the depth chart, obviously, and it might make the Falcons more willing to explore life without Campbell. The bigger question might be how they feel about Foye Oluokun, who just turned in an impressive rookie campaign. This team plays nickel often enough that having four starting-caliber linebackers is a nice luxury but still a luxury, meaning Oluokun would have to be considered a true backup going forward—and Campbell comfortable with reduced playing time—to make this thing work. If the team did move on from Campbell, it’d be Jones, the rookie, and Oluokun going forward. Considering linebacker is in good shape and Campbell shouldn’t break the bank, though, linebacker still would be a surprising pick. What are the opportunity costs?Everything I wrote about defensive tackle and cornerback, basically. The Falcons have bigger fish to fry than linebacker, and while adding a potentially elite player to the corps would certainly improve this defense, it would leave them looking for immediate and long-term help at defensive end, right tackle, defensive tackle, cornerback, and safety with subsequent picks that have lower success rates. It also creates a logjam at the position this year Stitched Desmond Trufant Jersey , where the Falcons are loaded with talent and depth options, though I’m wagering that they’d clear out plenty of playing time at the expense of Oluokun and perhaps Campbell if they made this kind of investment.Unless they’re worried about losing Campbell next year, though, the costs would appear to outweigh the immediate benefits. Defensive end is going to be hollowed out again to start next offseason, defensive tackle will be shedding a couple of useful players if the Falcons don’t re-sign them, cornerback is still a position of priority given that the team won’t stop talking about it, and tackle remains the one position the Falcons could probably slam dunk upgrade in the draft. Should the Falcons do it?I’d lean toward no. Bush in particular and White to a lesser degree could be great, and obviously adding an elite linebacker next to Deion Jones would make this defense a gigantic pain in the butt to deal with. From that perspective, it’s a justifiable pick, and nobody should be shocked if Dan Quinn’s deep and enduring love of linebackers wins the day if one of those guys is available at 14.But the Falcons can’t abandon needs-based drafting entirely just because they signed some useful depth options for a year or two, as they well know. That first round draft pick could be a five-plus year solution at a position, and the Falcons could certainly use more talent at linebacker but not to the extent they need it at, say, right tackle or defensive end. I still expect them to sink a pick into the trenches when all is said and done, but DQ’s lust for athleticism and speed at linebacker and the team’s post-draft ties to top players in 2018 suggest we shouldn’t rule this one out entirely.

His selection for the Titans was first round pick Jeffery Simmons. It was probably a pretty easy pick for McShay with Simmons having top 5 talent and falling all the way to #19.Of course it isn’t THAT easy. There are a lot of other factors in play with Simmons including the assault while in high school and the torn ACL this winter. On the assault, I thought the introductory press conference the Titans did with Simmons that also included Amy Adams Strunk, Jon Robinson and Mike Vrabel gave pretty good insight into Simmons the person. You can listen to some of my thoughts on that on the latest Locked on Titans here. Here were McShay’s thoughts on the Simmons pick: NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have lost their three-time Pro Bowl tight end at least for a big chunk of the season.Quarterback Marcus Mariota is being evaluated after hurting his throwing arm, and two-time Pro Bowl left tackle Taylor Lewan is in the concussion protocol. And that’s just the latest injuries for the Titans. Now Tennessee has to see who’s healthy enough for the home opener Sunday against AFC South rival Houston (0-1) and adapt accordingly.“What we’re going to do every week is try to figure out what gives us the best chance to win, personnel wise, who we have available, maybe who we’re playing obviously,” rookie coach Mike Vrabel said Monday.“We’ll be flexible enough to use any personnel that we think will help us win. I don’t think we can commit to anything right now.”The Titans already are down starting right tackle Jack Conklin, who was inactive against Miami as he recovers from a torn left ACL repaired in January. On defense, starting linebacker Derrick Morgan played only 14 snaps in the Titans’ 27-20 loss in Miami as the Titans work the veteran back in after a preseason injury.Tennessee’s top two draft picks also are linebackers, and Rashaan Evans and Harold Landry both missed the opener with injuries.Add to that the Titans are recovering from the league’s longest game since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970 because of two lightning delays that made the matchup in Miami last 7 hours, 8 minutes from the opening kickoff to the final second ticked off.Morgan said it wasn’t easy warming up, cooling down again and again Delanie Walker Jersey , but thinks the Titans learned some mental toughness from the day that wouldn’t end.“Hopefully it never happens again and we never have to play football for eight hours straight,” Morgan said.Mariota is being evaluated after he lost sensation in his right hand after the game from his injured right elbow. He was intercepted twice — both after taking a hit from Dolphins defensive lineman William Hayes following a handoff. Vrabel said they’re hopeful of getting a good report back on Mariota’s arm needing everybody that’s healthy and available.Blaine Gabbert, signed this offseason, replaced Mariota and threw for 117 yards with an interception. The Titans do have rookie Logan Woodside on the practice squad, but will wait for a report on Mariota before deciding whether to add another quarterback.Vrabel did say he told defensive coordinator Dean Pees to take note of how officials are handling quarterbacks carrying out a fake on a run-pass option.“If that’s legal, then we have to do it the same exact way,” Vrabel said.Lewan was resting Monday. Asked about Dolphins lineman Andre Branch’s hit, Vrabel said it probably wasn’t dirty even if the coach thinks his left tackle “absolutely” was targeted. The Titans put tight end Delanie Walker on injured reserve Monday and the tight end will have surgery on his right ankle in the next few days. Walker came into the season with the most catches in the NFL by a tight end between 2013 and 2017. He also has been Mariota’s favorite target, leading the team in receptions in two of the past three years.Vrabel said the Titans will evaluate Walker’s potential to return this season after surgery. Jonnu Smith, a third-round pick out of Florida International in 2017, has 19 receptions and will be the first expected to fill in for Walker. Smith had talked to Walker and said the veteran was in good spirits.“It is some big shoes to fill,” Smith said.
With the Texans’ 2018 season now in the rear-view mirror Martinas Rankin Jersey , it’s time to reflect (see what I did there?) and offer up some constructive criticism of the team.Let’s start with a guy who probably receives more criticism than anyone associated with the Texans—head coach Bill O’Brien.I’ve asked the BRB staff to offer up well thought-out, reasoned, and realistic constructive criticism of O’Brien, and I received a variety of answers.Of course, I had to shoot BFD with multiple horse tranquilizers, hog-tie him, and nearly drown him in a puddle of his own kale puree in order to force “constructive” thoughts from his face on O’Brien Jordan Akins Jersey , because that is just not what he does.Let’s see what the staff came up with:Chris:Brett Kollmann:Matt Burnham:Capt. Ron:Rivers McCown:Matt Weston:BFmf’ndD:Mike Bullock:So there you have it - I... think... maybe some of that was constructive?Possibly? Lil’ bit? This was fun.We will do this again for another coach, or player... What are your constructive criticisms of Bill O’Brien? Use the comments section below to let us know! Oh, no."I could groan on and on and on about the Matt Kalil signing. The Panthers paid an enormous sum of $55 million (over five years) to carry him from Minnesota to Carolina. They signed him because they were tired of having to chip and manipulate their tackles. After Cam Newton was punctured and popped in Super Bowl 50, David Gettelman vowed it couldn’t happen again. And guess what? It happened again. The Panthers still had to chip and slide.Newton was still a submarine captain, constantly playing under pressure. Kalil offered nothing at all as a vertical run blocker. He struggled making blocks in space. He couldn’t hold his own against pass rushers. He could get beat by speed rushes. He never had the punch to control blocks or suffocate power moves. The Panthers shed Kalil’s skin this offseason. The Texans chose to put the remnants back on. When the signing was announced, I, like everyone else Keke Coutee Jersey , assumed this move was just for tackle depth and competition. A whatever signing. I, like everyone, else, am probably wrong. In free agency, you have to pay what it takes to bring a player to your town, not what the player is actually worth. Yet there’s a subtext to contract terms. If a team is willing to pay X amount, they’ll only be willing to if it fills a specific need. Kalil was given a one year Deshaun Watson Jersey , $7.5 million by your Houston Texans. From Spotrac:This contract includes a $2.25 million signing bonus, $2.25 million guaranteed, and an annual salary of $7.5 million that is a combination of a base salary of $3.25 million, the signing bonus, and a roster bonus of $2 million. It’s a contract the Texans can get out of as soon as training camp if Kalil is injured or if he’s truly atrocious. However, with their current tackle situation, and the Texans calling and asking if Jordan Mills is still awak Zach Cunningham Jersey , only injury should keep Kalil off the roster for in 2019. Even more troubling is that a team doesn’t give a player a $7.5 million salary for him to back up and compete for a roster spot. Backups don’t earn that much in this wild and crazy market. Houston offered Matt Kalil the salary of a starting offensive tackle. It’s only April 1st. But as of right now, based on this contract, I’m afraid.I’m very afraid the Houston Texans are expecting Matt Kalil to be their starting left tackle in 2019.
This year’s crop of free agents will be joined by veterans deemed too costly by their current teams in the coming days and weeks. Which pass rushers expected to be released could Seattle target?"With free agency opening on March 14 Cheap Ugochukwu Amadi Jersey , the group of pending free agents will begin to inflate in the coming days and weeks. A wave of players will soon flood the market, deemed too expensive by their current teams to stick around. At some positions, it will be a welcome influx of talent. Count EDGE among those positions which will need a boost, with the majority of the top end talent certain to be retained by their current clubs. Luckily for pass rush needy teams such as the Seattle Seahawks, more talent should soon be made available. Here are the EDGEs at risk of getting cut (or already have been) who could be a fit in Seattle. Olivier VernonAmong all players listed here, Vernon is the most talented and would be the most impactful addition; not a coincidence, he’s also the most likely to remain with his current team. The Giants signed Vernon to a massive, five year, $85M deal with $40M fully guaranteed in 2016. Since then, Vernon’s been a solid, if not great player in New York, with 22 sacks and 28 tackles for loss in three seasons. The Giants can save $11.5M towards the cap if they release Vernon, though they would incur a dead money charge of $8M. With approximately $28M in cap space currently available, and just Landon Collins needing to be re-signed among their premier talent, New York could wait until next offseason when the dead money is much more palatable ($4M). However, Vernon’s been floated by Over The Cap’s Jason Fitzgerald and NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal as a potential cut. If Vernon were to hit the open market, the Seahawks would surely be interested. He’s a true three down lineman capable of playing the run and pass, and would make a terrific partner for Frank Clark. Though Vernon had just seven sacks in 2018, his pressure rate of 11.1 reflects the type of disruptive presence he is, and the type of rusher Pete Carroll desires—someone who affects the quarterback. Robert QuinnA footnote in the Rams’ busy 2018 offseason was a trade that sent Quinn to the Dolphins, ridding themselves of the $22M remaining on his contract at the time. Now, Miami themselves are likely to get rid of Quinn Ugochukwu Amadi Seattle Seahawks Jersey , saving just under $13M in the process. The Dolphins pending release of Quinn is a reflection of the realities of the NFL rather than Quinn’s play last season. In just his second season as a stand up rusher, Quinn registered 6.5 sacks, 35 pressures and nine tackles for loss. More impressive was his NFL-leading pass rush win rate of 40 percent, a staggering number and five percent higher than the next closest rusher (Jadeveon Clowney). Quinn will be in his age-29 season in 2019 and can certainly still help a team. Landing in Seattle would allow Quinn to avoid double teams, like he enjoyed when playing with Aaron Donald, as well as giving him a chance to play his former team in L.A. twice a season. Vinny CurryThe Eagles’ depth inevitably had to take a hit following their Super Bowl victory in 2018, and their inability to retain Curry was a part of that. As a free agent, Curry signed a three year, $23M deal with the Buccaneers, only to be cut after one season. On an entirely terrible defense last season, Curry was a disappointment for Tampa Bay: 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss and a pressure rate of 9.4. Similar to his former teammate Brandon Graham, a deal between the Seahawks and Curry would likely be one of two EDGE additions this spring, as Curry is much more of a depth addition than difference maker like a Vernon or Ezekiel Ansah. Curry has been a starter in just one season of his career (2017); the most productive season of his career came in a year in which he played 32 percent of the defense’s snaps. Depth in a pass rushing group is a must in the modern NFL, and it’s something Seattle currently lacks. The signing of Curry would be unlikely to inject double-digit sacks into the group, but it would absolutely provide depth. Adrian ClaybornIn writing about free agent pass rushers the Seahawks could target, I likened Graham’s production and situation to Clayborn, who signed a two year, $10M deal with the Patriots last spring. Clayborn plummeted back to Earth after a 9.5-sack 2017, producing just 2.5 sacks and three tackles for loss in 2018. Now, New England can release Clayborn and save $3.9M, while incurring a cap hit of $2M. The Patriots have $15.7M in cap space currently Shaquem Griffin Jersey , and need to sign Trey Flowers, their best defensive player, to a new deal. Clayborn is a reliable edge defender who can play against the run and pass, but could be released to make the room needed to round out a roster expected to make another Super Bowl charge.Clayborn isn’t a flashy player by any stretch, nor would he particularly move the needle. However, in the name of restoring the depth that left Seattle, he would be a solid addition to the Seahawks rotation. Vic BeasleyThrough four seasons in the NFL, Beasley has remained an entirely puzzling player. Though he wasn’t aided by Dan Quinn and the Falcons repeatedly switching his position, from defensive end to linebacker and back again, Beasley has thoroughly disappointed in three of his four seasons. The one season he didn’t disappoint, however, Beasley led the league in sacks with 15.5 and was named a first-team All-Pro.Now set to play 2019 under his fifth-year option worth $12.8M, it’s expected Atlanta will cut ties with the former first round selection. If Beasley does indeed hit the open market, he could be a highly intriguing option for Seattle. He has familiarity with Carroll’s defense, having played his entire career in Quinn’s system. Additionally, he clears all of the Seahawks’ athletic thresholds at the position—with the lone exception being arm length, where he falls 1/2” short—and is a 99th percentile athlete. Above all else, Seattle prioritizes the three cone drill with their EDGEs. Three times in the Carroll era, the Seahawks have taken the pass rusher who posted the best three cone in their class. Frank Clark was one of those three, but only because Beasley and his three cone of 6.91 seconds was grouped in with the linebackers, as opposed to defensive linemen. The fit is obvious, as is the need for Seattle. Beasley has an element of risk to him Tre Flowers Jersey , but the upside is extremely high. It’s worth noting another big name pass rusher likely to be cut, Justin Houston, would be extremely unlikely to land with the Seahawks. The reason for Houston’s expected release—besides his $21.1M cap hit—is his fit in new Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s 4-3 defense. If Seattle’s going to give a free agent pass rusher a sizable deal, regardless of length, it isn’t going to be for one who’s a questionable fit within the scheme. Despite the likelihood of the top pass rushers being re-signed by their current teams, the Seahawks and their $51.9M in cap space should have an impressive group of EDGEs to target next month. Retaining Clark is the top priority, and once that’s accomplished, Seattle can begin to bring in some help for him.Amara Darboh will get second chance with Seahawks in 2019 As a rookie, Amara Darboh couldn’t win a significant role on the offense for the Seattle Seahawks. Going into year two, Darboh wasn’t healthy enough to compete in a group that is currently six-deep after promoting Keenany Reynolds, so he barely even had his chance at redemption. By next year, he could get a second opportunity to make a difference on the Seahawks. On Friday, Darboh failed a physical with the New England Patriots and reverted back to Seattle’s injured reserve. He is not eligible to play this season. That should give the Seahawks to keep Darboh in the fold for the next offseason. He’ll cost $400,000 against the cap this season, per a tweet I read by our own John Gilbert.Darboh was a third round pick in 2017 out of Michigan. He played sparingly last year and failed to catch up this offseason as the team became more and more aware of the talent of David Moore, also a member of the 2017 draft class. The Seahawks currently have Tyler Lockett, Doug Baldwin, and Moore all under contract for the next few seasons, with Jaron Brown signed through 2019 and Brandon Marshall potentially retiring next year, as he’s mentioned as a possibility.
Aaron Rodgers weighs in on national anthem Davante Adams Jersey White , NFL rules changes, & more One thing that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has made perfectly clear over the past several years is that he is much more than just a football player. Rodgers is an excellent golfer and has joined the ownership group of the Milwaukee Bucks, cementing his commitment to sports in the state of Wisconsin. He is also a dedicated member of the community in the area, becoming the most prominent public face of the MACC Fund and recently discussing his ongoing support of the Wounded Warrior Project. With these factors in mind, then, it should come as no surprise that Rodgers has strong opinions about the NFL’s treatment of players both on and off the field, the league’s handling of players’ social justice-related demonstrations, and general current events around the United States. Rodgers shared those opinions in interviews with NFL Network’s Michael Silver and The Ringer’s Kevin Clark, which were both published this week, and his comments are worth examination. In Clark’s piece, Rodgers dives more significantly into the NFL and its own specific issues. Clark’s premise revolves around what Rodgers would try to do if he were in Roger Goodell’s shoes as league commissioner, and he had plenty to say. However, one of the most profound statements he made involves the inconsistencies with the league’s owners’ reaction to players who protest about social issues during the national anthem: “If you’re going to take the focus off of what the protest was really about—it was never about the anthem, it was never about the troops, it was about social equality and racial injustice—then make it all about the anthem.” Rodgers points out that other activities continue on in NFL stadiums while the anthem is played, and he also looked back on the period early in his career: “We never came out for the anthem back in the day ... the messaging has been changed. If the owners see it as all about the flag and the anthem, everybody should be held to the same standard.”Rodgers appears to be in favor of everyone in the stadium being treated the same, rather than just the players on the field. He likes the idea of stopping food and merchandise sales during the performance, for example. But in talking to Silver Clay Matthews Jersey White , Rodgers explored the protests themselves in more detail, emphasizing that he and his fellow players “love and support and appreciate the troops” in the US military. Rodgers’ actions with the Wounded Warrior Project in particular illustrate that, even though it is the type of proactive work that often goes unseen or ignored; as he says, “the good stuff doesn’t get the headlines.” Rodgers also says that he refuses to engage with fans — or the current president — when they criticize him or other players for their actions or statements; in his words, doing so would be “giving credence to an opinion and value to an opinion that’s way off base — because they’ve missed the point of what this was all about.”Of course, as a football player, Rodgers has plenty of thoughts on how the league he plays in runs things as well. Furthermore, going through a contract negotiation, as he is now, is giving him a particularly informed opinion on the league’s financial setup under the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Some of the ideas he suggested are borrowed from the NBA, which is hardly a coincidence. He mentioned things like a soft salary cap, eliminating the franchise tag, implementing veteran-friendly contract options, and others. He also would like to see more communication between the league and players on all rules changes — another area where the NBA has taken the lead under current commissioner Adam Silver.Interestingly, though Rodgers is all for improving player safety in football, there are limits to how far he would be willing to go. The college football targeting rule, for one thing, is something he dislikes (saying “the enforcement lacks a little bit of oversight”), and he’s not a fan of the new kickoff rules. He’s also pleased with the progress on head injuries Aaron Ripkowski Jersey , saing “I don’t know much more you can do on that except fining teams who don’t adhere to the protocol.”Oh, and of course the guy with the iconic championship belt celebration is fully supportive of players being able to express themselves after touchdowns. “You’ve got to respect celebrations. You love them, look forward to them,” he said. “Let guys be guys.”Let them, indeed.Check out the articles below for much more of Rodgers’ comments on these issues:We Made Aaron Rodgers NFL Commissioner for a Day | The RingerRodgers supports LeBron, implores players to ignore Trump jabs | NFL.comPackers’ defense dominates Josh Allen, Bills in 22-0 shutout win After a disastrous stretch of defense, blowing a huge lead to the Vikings and allowing Washington to build one in the first half, Josh Allen was exactly who Mike Pettine and Co. needed to see. While Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense couldn’t quite get rolling, a dominating defense shutout the Bills, forcing three turnovers, and notching seven sacksto give Green Bay a much needed 22-0 win in Week 4. The rookie Bills quarterback finished the first half 5/19 for 58 yards en route to a Bills record for incompletions in a first half, to go with a heinous arm punt picked off by Jaire Alexander to wipe points off the board. In six possessions, the Packers forced four three-and-outs and the Alexander pick to shut out a Buffalo team that had jumped all over the Vikings in Week 3. Green Bay jumped out to a 16-0 first-half lead a week after the Bills took a 27-0 margin into halftime in Minnesota. The Packers’ defense had only forced three turnovers in the first three weeks, one of the worst figures in the league. Allen was generous in changing that, throwing two picksand sailing passes over the heads or at the feet of his receivers. Rodgers, looking much healthier but not significantly sharper than a week ago, bought time and made plays in ways we are used to seeing. He also missed some easy throws, threw his first interception of the season and nearly threw a pick-six on fourth down in the second half. Not having Randall Cobb clearly changed the gameplan for the Packers as they rotated running backs Mike Daniels Jersey White , tried to feed Jimmy Graham, and couldn’t quite generate the spark they were looking for. An opening-drive touchdown ended in a doinked extra point by Mason Crosby, a harbinger of things to come for the offense. They were consistently able to move the ball and get in position, only to come up just a little short. Costly drops and some bad throws stymied the Green Bay passing attack, with Rodgers making a number of key plays with his legs and just enough big-time throws to put points on the board. It was enough Sunday against a young Bills squad, but will have to be better for the Packers to achieve their goal of contending for a Super Bowl. Missing a hurt Cobb, the Packers lost Geronimo Allison to a concussion in the second half, forcing a pair of rookies into key roles for Green Bay’s offense. A lack continuity, experience, and rhythm held Rodgers and his group back. So did not playing Aaron Jones more often. He finished with 65 yards on 11 carries, a 5.9 average, and at this point the only person who doesn’t see he’s the best running back in town is McCarthy. Playing Lance Kendricks for any reason remains a head-scratching decision. For all the scheme improvements, some befuddling personnel decisions linger. Two promising third-quarter drives stalled out, resulting in a field goal and a turnover on downs thanks to the same problems that plagued the Packers in Week 3: drops, off-target throws, and some blown protections. In a game that should have been something like 30-0, the Packers held just a 19-0 advantage through three quarters. But the defense came through over and over. Once the lead was double-digits, Mike Pettine began to dial up pressure to confuse and befuddle Allen, ending in seven sacks and 11 quarterback hits for this Packers defense in its first game with Muhammad Wilkerson. Even Kyler Fackrell got into the act with a trio of sacks J'Mon Moore Jersey White , disrupting in the Buffalo backfield and flummoxing Allen into missed throws and turnovers. Relying on the defense to pick up a streaky offense wasn’t a luxury the Packers have recently been afforded. Buffalo hardly represents a telling test, but Week 4’s performance serves as a step in the right direction for this young group. Blasting Josh Allen doesn’t prove their worth, but not doing so would have been solid evidence of their failures. And speaking of Super Bowl quality, the last shutout for the Packers was 2010, the year they last hoisted the Lombardi trophy. Rookies Josh Jackson and Jaire Alexander shined in coverage against a pedestrian group of receivers. In fact, a receiver didn’t post a reception until late in the first half for the Bills. The much-maligned Ha Ha Clinton-Dix snagged a pick early in the second half, his third straight game with an interception. Even without Kevin King, this Green Bay secondary proved it has some playmakers, a welcome change from recent vintages of this defense. Through four weeks, the Packers offense has faced four potential top-10 defenses, but the offense simply isn’t where we expect it to be a month from now. This isn’t a Super Bowl offense right now. But if the defense can build on this performance against a quarterback like Matthew Stafford — not just Josh Allen — those offense struggles are not only mitigated, but provide a boost for when Rodgers and his band of merry men finally emerge from Sherwood Forest to once again pillage and plunder. This defense, for its part, isn’t out of the woods itself, but showed the potential to dominate a matchup, even against a rookie. They needed a get-right game and they got one. Whether or not they can get right on their own could very well decide the fate of the Packers this season.
Coaching Snapshot: Outside Linebackers Coach Shane Bowen A look into DC Dean Pees’ defensive staffName: Shane BowenRole: Outside Linebackers CoachNFL Coaching Experience: 2 seasonsPositions Coached: Defensive Assistant (Houston Womens Derrick Morgan Jersey , 2016-2017)Collegiate Coaching Experience:Assistant (Georgia Tech, 2009-2011), Graduate Assistant (Ohio State, 2012), and Linebackers (Kennesaw State, 2013-2015). Coaching Track RecordHouston TexansShane Bowen’s NFL coaching career began in the AFC South. After spending close to a decade coaching college football, Bowen was given the opportunity to join the Houston Texans coaching staff. Bowen was employed as a defensive assistant. He was brought onto a staff compiled of a handful of “Belichick disciples” in HC Bill O’Brien, DC Romeo Crennel and LB Coach Mike Vrabel.Under Crennel, the defensive staff helped the Texans secure the throne as the number one defense in football. Considering the fact that the team lost J.J. Watt three games into the season and still managed to become the top defensive unit speaks volumes. In 2017, Vrabel took over as DC, with Crennel having been promoted to Assistant HC. The injury bug feasted on some of the Texans defensive playmakers, and Houston’s fall from grace wasn’t pretty. The Texans were on the lower end in total defense and finished dead last in total points allowed.Bowen experienced the highs and lows of a defense in two seasons. However http://www.thetitanslockerroom.com/authentic-eddie-george-jersey , he reestablished a working relationship with Vrabel that stemmed back to their time on the Ohio State sidelines that aided in him being added to the Titans 2018 coaching staff.Tennessee TitansThe Titans are one of a handful teams that split the linebacker coaching duties into two separate departments. Pittsburgh, Chicago, Kansas City, San Francisco and Washington are the only other teams that have designated coaches to oversee the Inside Linebackers and Outside Linebackers.Bowen will be responsible for the latter. He has a quality group mixed with both veteran talent and fresh blood. OLB Brian Orakpo - who continues to miss time nursing an injury - will be a tremendous asset to a young coach like Bowen. On the opposite side, Derrick Morgan, who shared the field with Bowen at Georgia Tech, already has a firm understanding of what type of person Bowen is. Bowen, who suffered a career ending injury, went to war with Morgan at Georgia Tech before transitioning into a role on the Yellowjacket coaching staff. Morgan witnessed first hand the passion and love for the game of football ingrained in Bowen. Add rookie second round stud Harold Landry III and undrafted free agent standout Sharif Finch to the stable of savvy pass rushers, and - health being a non-factor - the group is intriguing and intimidating. The depth at the position isn’t bad. If OLB Aaron Wallace can avoid injury, he has shown flashes in preseason action. OLB Josh Carraway, who spent last season on the practice squad Womens Derrick Henry Jersey , will have to make the most of limited reps in order to prove he is worthy of being on the final 53.DC Dean Pees, who had built an impressive resume during his tenure on NFL sidelines, will look for Bowen to develop a crop of pass rusher that can help devour the pocket, force throws and have QBs asking paper or plastic when the whistle blows. Bowen, who is a teacher focused on the enhancing the “little things”, will focus his attention on preparing players in the position he once played. He will have two solid defensive minds to lean on in Pees and Vrabel. RICHMOND, Texas (AP) — Former Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young is free on bond after he was arrested on a drunken driving charge. In a statement, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office says the former Texas Longhorns star was arrested about 4:30 a.m. Monday in the Missouri City area of suburban Houston. The six-year NFL veteran, who lists a Missouri City address as his residence, was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and released after posting a $500 cash bond.Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Hanel told the Houston Chronicle that “the deputy noticed slurred speech and a strong smell of alcoholic beverage.” He also said Young “flunked every sobriety test they gave to him.”Young served 18 months’ probation after pleading no contest in January 2017 to driving drunk in Austin.FOX Fantasy AutoForm a Racing Team, Compete for PrizesPlay Now!
Cam Newton can’t keep from grinning when he looks around at the playmakers that surround him in the Panthers‘ locker room.“The talent level we have on this team is extremely scary Scott Miller Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jersey ,” Newton said. The Panthers proved that again Sunday.Newton completed 19 of 25 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns, running back Christian McCaffrey racked up 157 total yards and scored twice and second-year wide receiver Curtis Samuel scored on a 33-yard double reverse and hauled in a 19-yard TD catch midway through the fourth quarter to seal Carolina’s 42-28 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. The Panthers (6-2) are on a roll midway through the season, scoring 99 points in the last nine quarters. They have wide receivers that can run the ball, running backs that can catch, a big body receiver, a third-down receiving specialist, one of the best pass-catching tight ends in the league and, of course, a one-time league MVP at quarterback who can do it all. Those weapons were all on display in the first half as the Panthers scored touchdowns on five straight possessions to build a 35-7 lead en route to their 10th straight win at home.Even a little “Fitzmagic” wasn’t enough for the Buccaneers (3-5).Ryan Fitzpatrick, who started in place of the turnover-prone Jameis Winston, finished with 243 yards passing and four touchdowns 鈥?two each to Adam Humphries and O.J. Howard 鈥?and led the Bucs back to within 35-28 in the fourth quarter before running out of steam.Fitzpatrick threw two costly interceptions 鈥?one on the game’s second possession which led to Carolina’s first touchdown, and other late in the fourth quarter that sealed the Bucs’ fate.“We know we have the talent, it’s just we can’t keep digging ourselves in these holes, especially on the road,” Fitzpatrick said. The deficit 鈥?and Carolina’s offensive firepower 鈥?proved too much.Tight end Greg Olsen called the versatility the Panthers now have on offense with players like McCaffrey, Samuel and D.J. Moore is unlike anything he’s seen since his arrival in Carolina in 2011.“We have guys who are so explosive, so dynamic and so good in the open space Cheap Scott Miller Jersey ,” Olsen said. “We can give them balls on handoffs, throw it to them all 鈥?they’re very unique in that regard. I don’t know what we have had this many guys who are that dynamic with the ball in their hands.”That was evident throughout.McCaffrey leaped a defender on a reception in the flat and kept going, racing 32 yards for a first down. Samuel’s 33-yard TD on the reverse included the speedster reversing field and running a combined 103 yards , according to NFL’s Next Gen Stats. And Olsen, the cagey veteran, hauled in a one-handed catch in the end zone 鈥?his third TD in three weeks.“We were playing with momentum and when you’re playing like that, we have a lot of juice coming our way so it does make it very fun,” McCaffrey said.Said Newton: “When it’s clicking, it’s clicking.”BREAKING THE PATTERNBucs coach Dirk Koetter is eager to find a solution for his team, which seems to be stuck in a repeating pattern.“We go out, we get behind, we get killed in the second quarter, then rally like (heck) in the third quarter and then everybody thinks we’re back in it and then we fade off at the end,” Koetter said. “That’s definitely the pattern that we’re in. If I knew one thing to fix it I’d do it right now, but I don’t know what that is.”ADDISON TURNS IN TRIFECTAPanthers defensive end Mario Addison had a big game with three sacks to raise his team-leading total to 7陆.“I’m a pretty strong guy,” said the 6-foor-3, 260-pound Addison. “People underestimate me because I look kind of small but I pack a punch. By the time they miss and my hands get on the inside of them Scott Miller Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jersey , I’m running them back and they’re like ‘Dang, this guy’s stronger than I thought.'”SLAMMING THE DOORThe Panthers have been touting James Bradberry as their shutdown cornerback and he did quite a number on Tampa Bay’s Mike Evans, who finished with one catch for 16 yards despite being targeted 10 times.Panthers coach Ron Rivera called Bradberry’s defense “as solid as it gets.”THIEVES AVENUEThe Panthers secondary is coming up with big turnovers this season. Carolina has 11 interceptions at the midway point of the season after just 10 picks last season. Jackson, a rookie, has four of them.“The secondary is shaping up nicely and the more they play together the more chances they will have,” Rivera said.NATIONAL ANTHEMPanthers safety Eric Reid took a knee during the national anthem to protest racial and social injustice.INJURIESBuccaneers: None reported.Panthers: Reid left in the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury, but returned to the game.UP NEXTBuccaneers: Host Washington on Sunday.Panthers: Play four of their next five games on the road, beginning Thursday night at Pittsburgh. The Buccaneers finished Wednesday’s practice without the likes of Peyton Barber, Vinny Curry, Gerald McCoy and Demar Dotson. Barber and Dotson both were upgraded to limited participants in Thursday’s practice and a surprise addition to the report is defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul who was limited with a rib injury. The upgrades to Barber and Dotson are both positive as the Buccaneers head to Cincinnati and Pierre-Paul’s limited designation shouldn’t be too much to worry about for fans. For the Bengals, things still aren’t looking too good as many players remained with the Did Not Participate designation. Burfict, Dennard, Bernard, Croft and Vigil are remained unable to practice while there were some upgrades to the likes of Dre Kirpatrick, Bobby Hart and Jake Fisher. The full injury report for both teams can be found below.

Continuing to go through the position groups as they arrive, we are now at another split position at defensive line, plus linebacker.Like wide receiver, the defensive line is split into three different groupings for the purposes of the Seahawks Draft Board: EDGE (naturally), run-stuffing defensive tackles and interior rushers. While the lines can blur between the two (boiled down) types of defensive tackles, there is a difference in profiles Seattle looks for. First, the headlining position for the Seahawks this offseason.EDGEThe position with the most thresholds in Seattle’s draft philosophy is EDGE. That’s a tremendous help for a number of reasons, most notably that it helps to clear out names at a position where so often high profile prospects flame out in epic fashion. First, there’s defined size requirements: 6-foot-3 and above, between 245 and 275 pounds, and arms 33” or longer. The Seahawks are looking for explosiveness around the 70th percentile among EDGEs in the broad jump (9-foot-10) and a vertical of 32” or higher. The biggest emphasis athletically is put on change of direction. Short shuttle isn’t hugely important, anything quicker than 4.3 or 4.4 seconds is fine, however, three cone is a highly important indicator. Anything slower than 7.3 seconds is a non-starter, and even that’s pushing it. Since 2010, Seattle’s drafted the EDGE with the quickest three cone time three times. The Seahawks will keep close tabs on the EDGEs who test the best on the three cone drill this week, and you should too. Defensive TackleThough the position is boiled down further, there are a couple things Seattle looks for at the position, regardless of the player type. For the most part, the Seahawks prefer taller DTs (6-foot-3), however Poona Ford is a considerable recent exception, at just 5-foot-11. Arm length, 32” and longer, is important. Explosive athletes aren’t particularly of interest to Seattle inside, with thresholds of 27” in the vertical and 8-foot-6 in the broad. After those general trends, it boils down to more role-specific numbers. The Seahawks target run-stoppers 305 pounds and above, while more penetrative players are in the 295-305 range. Functional strength is required in the run defenders, and so 30 reps is the baseline on the bench press. Short-area movement is valued in gap-shooting pass rushers, which means a short shuttle of 4.65 seconds or quicker is needed. LinebackerSince 2010, Seattle has stuck quite closely to their mold at linebacker, with two high profile exceptions. The first came in 2011, when K.J. Wright was selected despite not meeting any of the Seahawks’ athletic thresholds, except for broad jump. What Wright did (and still does, presumably) possess was incredible, 98th percentile arm length. (Wright did meet their height and weight requirement.) The other exception was Shaquem Griffin http://www.seahawkslockerroom.com/authentic-dontae-johnson-jersey , who was selected despite only clearing their height and 40-yard dash thresholds.Seattle is likely going to be in the market for an off-ball linebacker this spring, and during the Scouting Combine, that will be players 6’ and above, and between 230 and 245 pounds. They’ll be in the 90th percentile or above in the vertical jump (39”) and in the broad jump (10’). Above average speed in the 40-yard dash, below 4.55 seconds will be targeted, as will above average change of direction—around 7.2 seconds and below. Since 2012, Bobby Wagner has exemplified the type of linebacker the Seahawks want: Prototypical size, the speed and agility to get sideline-to-sideline, and the explosiveness to stop the ball-carrier upon contact. That’s the type of player they’ll be looking for in Indianapolis. Terry McLaurin would help the Seattle Seahawks immensely. The former Ohio State Buckeye is exactly what Seattle looks for in a receiver. Two weeks ago, I dared to dream about the Seahawks landing a dynamic, run-after-catch threat in the 2019 NFL Draft. I hypothesized that Deebo Samuel could be the guy but acknowledged it would be “grossly irresponsible” for Seattle to spend a high pick on a wide receiver, given their more pressing needs.McLaurin as a pick feels more realistic. Testing will have a large say on where he goes, and the 2019 combine invitee could run fast (more on this later), but he’s likely to be a third-rounder. The strength of this receiver group is in day 2. While the depth of the class is limited, and the top end has question marks, day 2 contains several fun guys. For the Seahawks, McLaurin is the pick of the bunch. In college, he was the type of explosive playmaker that Pete Carroll salivates over: In a loaded offensive arsenal, McLaurin averaged 20 yards per catch and recorded 11 receiving touchdowns. Senior BowlAt the Senior Bowl, McLaurin alerted all evaluators to his talents, soaring to be the most impressive wideout behind Samuel. He demonstrated a deep comprehension of separation creation. His sudden, aggressive cuts drew gasps from onlookers. All the traits he flashed on tape dominated defenders. He proved that he’s a receiver that wins through route running ability and not just athleticism. At the end of the week, McLaurin had impressed some of the most respected evaluators:In the game, he earned three “Jon Gruden Raiders stickers,” took an end-around 20 yards and played through contact at the catchpoint:Here is my real-time reaction from the press box:The weigh-ins also confirmed McLaurin’s ability to play both inside and out at the NFL level, where he measured in at 6ft 1, 205lbs.ToughnessWhat helps McLaurin is his toughness. He will fight through impact when trying to haul in the football and maintains his concentration. One of his best catches is adjusting to a ball thrown behind him. He will vertically leap, contort his body and secure the catch.I severely dislike comparisons for prospects, BUT McLaurin’s back-shoulder catching style reminds me of Golden Tate coming into the league. McLaurin is a body catcher who relies on trying to clasp the ball into his chest, even when leaping for the football. He would benefit from extending his hands away from his frame and making use of his full catching radius. Back to McLaurin’s physicality, where his ability to deal with tight press coverage benefits too:Beating pressWhen dealing with press coverage, the main way McLaurin beats defenders is via his footspeed. He makes them dance a merry jig with slippery lateral ability and quick, dicey feet. You will always get those saying this kind of release needs to be cleaned up at the next level, but for the purposes of the one-on-one drills it was awesome. Enjoy two angles of one of his best reps:McLaurin’s skill in moving suddenly in short areas leads to easy separation. His shimmies and head fakes were brutal for corners in Mobile:DeceptionMcLaurin’s footspeed and violence when running routes showed up in college. He was not a lazy route runner, instead attacking the break point each time:McLaurin showed the complete mismatch of putting him against Texas safety Kris Boyd. Exploiting a lunging jam with a quick swipe Womens 12th Fan Jersey , McLaurin beat Boyd deep and stacked the defensive back. Combined with McLaurin’s head and eye fake to look for the ball, Boyd thought he was beat on the go route. Instead, McLaurin then used his ++ positioning to sink his hips and break outwards for the catch. There are a few added steps and footwork issues in McLaurin’s route-running that can be fixed with sound coaching, but overall he manipulates defenders beautifully.SpeedJohn Schneider has only ever taken two wide receivers who ran slower than the 4.4s—Chris Harper in the 2013 fourth and Kenny Lawler in the 2016 seventh. The Seahawks’ general manager has never taken a slow day 2 prospect. On tape, McLaurin appears quicker than fast. He appeared to have rapid first and second gears but didn’t seem to possess burner qualities higher up the stick shift. However; just look at the Zebra tracking numbers from the Senior Bowl:Unsurprisingly, this showed up in one-on-ones, particularly once he had avoided any kind of jam:As Brad Kelly described, McLaurin has a “slow motion” effect on the other 21 players:Perhaps, then, McLaurin’s altering of his route speed to manipulate defenders and get in optimal position for the football is what influenced my non-burner opinions pre-Senior Bowl. In Mobile, while I was munching on numerous Reese’s pieces, McLaurin looked like the fastest man on the field. Coming out of high school, McLaurin reportedly ran a 4.40 forty-yard dash at “The SPARQ Opening” in 2013. He expects to run a 4.35 forty at the NFL combine. He’s certainly running in the 4.4s, making him 1) a mightily appealing prospect and 2) “eligible” for Schneider’s consideration.Ball carrierWhat makes McLaurin so exciting is what he can do with the ball in his hands. His strong lower legs give him excellent contact balance for the position and a robustness that makes him tricky to bring down.As a ballcarrier, he is always looking to punish with a nasty off-hand stiff arm. Furthermore, he transitions from receiver to runner near-instantly. This myriad of positive traits gets even better due to McLaurin’s prescient open-field vision. As a result, McLaurin represents true housing potential with his COD skills and burst.Blocking and special teamsThe high effort of McLaurin warrants serious praise. It was beyond question as a stalk blocker at Ohio State, where he was always looking to sink low and deliver a firm, well-aimed hand strike. While he lacked stickiness and drive—which could be an Ohio State-coached thing—he was willing.Such eagerness to “do his job” extended to special teams, where McLaurin was a capable gunner on punt and kickoff coverage. In Mobile, when most watchers bemoaned the special teams drills, McLaurin hurtled downfield as a gunner and always met the returner with a tap. DraftParris Campbell (who turned down the Senior Bowl) has so far received more attention than McLaurin, but I’d rank McLaurin over his former teammate. As stated, the athleticism plus the quick-separation skills make for a deadly wide receiver #2 type who can physically transition into an open-field threat. That makes McLaurin perfect for the offense of Brian Schottenheimer. As I wrote in the Samuel edition of Draft on tape, “Seattle’s receiver group was weak last year, with Lockett the only consistent threat after Doug Baldwin played the year hurt.” Meanwhile, David Moore appears to be viewed as the Jermaine Kearse-type, that of a possession receiver.Moore regressed, after he had issues controlling his body and getting two feet in bounds, but McLaurin would fill a different role, playing in the slot and outside. Think Golden Tate. McLaurin meeting this need could remedy 2018’s disappointing yards-after-catch numbers. Additionally, he would get open on the intermediate crossers and over routes that Schottenheimer adores. The Seahawks are almost certain to move down in the draft, probably twice from their initial position at #21. That should net them enough picks to justify spending a third on McLaurin, assuming he doesn’t run stupid fast (4.3s). What we know now is this: Terry McLaurin is exactly what the Seattle Seahawks look for in a receiver.
49ers barely escape with first win of the season The San Francisco 49ers got their first win of the season in Week 2 Dwight Clark Jersey White , beating the Detroit Lions by a final score of 30-27. To say the 49ers got lucky is an understatement. Luck involves taking advantage of opportunity, but the Lions made a whole bunch of unforced errors, and it was enough to get the 49ers a win.It was not a pretty game, but the 49ers did enough to get the victory (and got enough help from the Lions). On offense, Jimmy Garoppolo was sacked five six times as his receivers struggled getting open. A week ago, Garoppolo threw three interceptions, and this week seemed like the exact opposite. He did not want to make any mistakes, and so he took the sacks instead. Of course, he also completed 17 of 25 passes for two touchdowns and made some solid throws. But pocket presence and awareness are still issues to consider. He was bailed out near the end of the game when he threw an interception that was brought back thanks to defensive holding. The star on offense was Matt Breida. He rushed 11 times for 138 yards and a touchdown, and added 21 receiving yards. The run total was goosed by a 66-yard run that saw Breida do great work following Pierre Gar莽on’s blocking all the way down for a touchdown. The defense held on late http://www.49erslockerroom.com/authentic-adrian-colbert-jersey , but it was a dumpster fire against the pass. The pass rush could not get consistent pressure against a bad offensive line, and the secondary outside of Richard Sherman was atrocious both in coverage and in tackling. The Lions simply ignored Sherman’s side, instead picking on Ahkello Witherspoon all afternoon. It resulted in Witherspoon getting benched in the fourth quarter for Jimmie Ward. The 49ers secondary got lucky in Week 2 as Stafford was regularly overthrowing his receivers deep down the field. The 49ers are now 1-1, and this game is all the proof you need that a win is a win is a win. I don’t want to take away from the positives, because the 49ers got some big performances in the win. But man, they have a lot of work to do.Up next: @ Kansas City Chiefs (2-0)It only gets more difficult in Week 3, as the 49ers travel to face the ridiculously hot Kansas City Chiefs. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes set the record for most touchdown passes in his first three games, and that offense is putting up absurd numbers. The 49ers pass rush and secondary have a huge test in front of them, although the defense does welcome back Reuben Foster from his two-game suspension. On the other side of the ball, the 49ers face a porous Chiefs defense. Jimmy Garoppolo struggled with turnovers in Week 1 Brock Coyle Jersey White , but then found himself taking more sacks in Week 2 thanks to strong Lions coverage. Garoppolo needs to figure out the happy medium. With the trade of Dee Ford, the 49ers have a big decision to make."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections 49ers Salary CapLevi’s Stadium Events49ers Transactions49ers Injury News49ers Press Conferences & Conference Calls2019 NFL Draft: 49ers picks, mock drafts, news, rumors, analysisReport: 49ers are torn between Quinnen Williams and Nick BosaNew,389commentsWith the trade of Dee Ford, the 49ers have a big decision to make. PDTShareTweetShareShareReport: 49ers are torn between Quinnen Williams and Nick BosaThe San Francisco 49ers executed a blockbuster trade Tuesday evening, acquiring Kansas City Chiefs pass rusher Dee Ford. Ford gives them that much-needed pass rusher. Which makes their draft decision all the more important, and it sounds like they aren’t sure on who to get. Walter Football’s Charlie Campbell reports that the 49ers are torn between Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa and Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen WIlliams. The 49ers hold the No. 2 pick in the draft Womens K'Waun Williams Jersey , so this decision could be made easier if the Arizona Cardinals select one of the two, but Campbell says both are in high regard with the 49ers: Campbell also said the 49ers are open to trading down. They don’t see Kentucky linebacker Josh Allen as a No. 2 prospect and would rather trade down if they were going to select him. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the 49ers are not getting another chance at this. Williams had a freakish Combine, running a 40 faster than quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo did at his. As high as I’ve been on Bosa, I’m starting to tilt towards Williams after this Ford signing. If Solomon Thomas can step it up then the rich get richer, but with what Williams showed a few weeks ago, It’s beginning to seem like the 49ers should go BPA. Either is someone to be happy with, but getting WIlliams if the 49ers miss out on Bosa due to Arizona being...well...Arizona, wouldn’t be a disappointment in the slightest.
Zac Taylor may still be with the Rams Hardy Nickerson Jersey , but he’s already got a good chunk of his Bengals coaching staff set up.Raiders quarters coach Brian Callahan is set to be the team’s next offensive coordinator. He has a pretty extensive history, which also includes plenty of experience with Jack Del Rio, who is expected to be Cincinnati’s defensive coordinator. From 2010-15 he spent time on the Denver Broncos staff as an assistant coach. He became the assistant quarterbacks coach when the Broncos won Super Bowl 50, which means he also spent plenty of time learning from Peyton Manning.More recently, Callahan was the Lions quarterbacks coach during the 2016 and 2017 seasons when Matthew Stafford saw career lows in interceptions. He didn’t post any career-high numbers during that span, but he was far more consistent than his years without Callahan. Each year, Matthew Stafford completed over 65 percent of his throws http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-shawn-williams-jersey , which is something he only accomplished the year before Callahan arrived.Last year, Callahan moved on to work under Jon Gruden in Oakland. He wasn’t able to help return Derek Carr to his 2016 form, but he did improve in completion percentage, passing yards, touchdowns and interceptions from 2017 to 2018. Of course, Callahan’s father is Bill Callahan, who has head coaching experience with the Raiders and Nebraska. It has even been rumored that the Bengals would like to add Bill Callahan to their staff for their vacant coaching job for the offensive line Womens Dre Kirkpatrick Jersey , but Washington can block that move since he is under contract for the same position. It isn’t clear (and likely won’t be until Taylor is officially announced as the head coach) whether Taylor or Brian Callahan will handle the play calling duties, as neither has experience calling plays at the professional level. That seems to be one of the only downsides to this move, but then again, we just endured Bill Lazor’s play-calling for essentially two seasons. This could be the breath of fresh air the Bengals have been looking for. The top 10 of this year’s NFL Draft is becoming very interesting. There seems to be a ton of blue chip pass rushers coming to the NFL as well as several other very talented defenders and offensive lineman. There is also the wild card of whether Kyler Murray will be the second quarterback taken in the first 10 picks after Dwayne Haskins. All of this leaves the Bengals sitting at pick 11 wondering who will fall on draft night. Right now the Bengals two most glaring needs are at offensive tackle and linebacker. At this point, Devin White is the only linebacker who looks like he will be worthy of a selection that early if he makes it to Cincinnati’s pick. Offensive tackle looked like a thin position at the start of the draft process, but a few more tackles have been climbing up the draft boards, which has Todd McShay thinking the Bengals could snag one early in his most recent mock draft. This mock shows the rise of not only Ford Darqueze Dennard Jersey , but Jawaan Taylor, the offensive tackle out of Florida, as well. Taylor went ninth overall to the Bills, which is quite the rise after he was viewed as a mid-first round pick not that long ago.Ford would obviously be a welcome addition. The offensive line saw improvements last season after bringing in Billy Price at center and Cordy Glenn at left tackle, but it really shows just how bad they were before that since they still struggled pretty heavily. One of the main reasons for the was Bobby Hart starting at right tackle most of the season. There were times you questioned how he could have ever been viewed as a starting right tackle with the way he pass protected. Ford would be an instant upgrade in the run game where he has incredible power and enough quickness to set the edge. His major knock seems to be his pass protection footwork isn’t quite there yet, but if the biggest knock is technique then you could do far worse. He would likely be a day one starter and have an instant impact when you consider what the Bengals dealt with last season. It should also be noted that White was also still on the board in McShay’s scenario, which would create quite the dilemma for Cincinnati. Their linebacking group could be getting a hard reset with the likely release of Vontaze Burfict and the rest of the group being mediocre at best. White would give the Bengals a true sideline-to-sideline linebacker Randy Bullock Jersey White , which is something they’ve been desperately missing for years now.If the Bengals manage to pick up a starter with the 11th pick at offensive line or linebacker, it seems like it’d be hard for fans to be too upset with the selection.
DETROIT (AP) — The play went for an 82-yard gain Womens Da'Shawn Hand Jersey , not a great moment for the Detroit defense. The way it ended epitomized the Lions‘ gritty victory.Darius Slay hustled back and tackled DJ Moore on a long reception in the third quarter, preventing a Carolina touchdown. The Panthers eventually missed a field goal on that drive, and the Lions went on to win 20-19 on Sunday.“That’s a huge play, that’s a great effort play,” Detroit coach Matt Patricia said. “Great hustle, great pursuit, that’s a really fast guy that he’s chasing. Fortunately, we’ve got a faster guy for that moment.”After three straight losses, Detroit’s playoff hopes seemed remote entering this game, but the Lions clearly haven’t given up. Even after an injury to rookie running back Kerryon Johnson, Detroit was able to take the lead in the fourth quarter and then hold on. Kenny Golladay’s acrobatic 19-yard touchdown catch put the Lions up 20-13 with 5:13 remaining, and after Carolina scored a TD of its own with 1:07 left, Cam Newton threw incomplete on a 2-point conversation attempt. This was the first of three straight home games for the Lions. Detroit (4-6) will try to take another step back toward contention when it hosts Chicago on Thanksgiving.Johnson departed with an apparent left knee injury after rushing for 87 yards and a touchdown. That injury took away one of Detroit’s most promising young players, but the Lions still had another one on the field in Golladay. The 6-foot-4 receiver had eight catches for 113 yards, and some of his receptions were on passes that seemed up for grabs.Golladay caught a 36-yard pass from Matthew Stafford on third-and-15 in the fourth quarter. Moments later, he leaped backward and came down with his touchdown catch, putting the Lions ahead.“He comes to work, he runs his tail off, and he tries to make plays as much as he possibly can,” Stafford said. “He doesn’t say much, and those guys with that quiet confidence, I feel good about.”Slay is a little more chatty, and he backs up his confidence with his play. With the Lions up 10-7 in the third quarter Graham Glasgow Jersey White , Moore caught a short pass near the left sideline, then broke back to the middle and raced toward the end zone . Slay finally ran him down at the Detroit 12.“I thought for sure that was going to be a touchdown, because I didn’t think anyone could run him down from behind,” Carolina receiver Jarius Wright said. “The Lions have some speed back there, though.”Then the defense held, and Graham Gano missed a field goal.“We don’t want to quit, we want to keep going, we want to tackle him and just give us a chance to try to get out of a bad situation,” Patricia said. “It’s unfortunate that that play happened, but certainly again proud of our guys with the mental toughness to settle down and then just play the next couple plays.” I always wanted to start a tradition. I never thought that I would play a part, just a part, in heaving up some song from the 80s I had barely thought about prior to 2016 and attempting to connect it, by any way possible, to a professional football team like the Detroit Lions. Now, at the end of a miserable 2018 season for the Lions, this silly little thing is the one thing I can count on to bring me joy, every time, during a Lions game.Last Sunday, “Africa” by southern California rock band Toto beat Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You.” They did that on the Sunday before Christmas, where the universe should have been against it. Before then, it beat Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and countless others. Each week the most suburban anthems came forward to unthrone “Africa,” and they all failed. Even the holidays could not contain it. If you’ve followed Pride Of Detroit on Twitter or listened to the PODcast http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-tracy-walker-jersey , you know that “Africa” is our thing. It’s been our thing since about 2016, when we started tagging it into the Lions and their unprecedented antics in last-minute miracles and winning ways.In a way, 2016 proved a useful catalyst. It started simply enough. #VictoryMonday music. Celebrate Golden Tate smacking the Vikings with his butt to score a game-winning touchdown on a PODcast. But then it kept happening. Every breathtaking Cardiac Cats comeback had people sending us videos on themselves, usually in a bar, singing “Africa.” It was our thing, la nostra tradizione; it was our—excuse me for using a word that’s lost all meaning in the internet age—meme, lodged deeply in our minds and passed along through contact. It resonated in a collective psyche for people who were fans of what we did at POD and who also liked the Lions. This was all in good fun. We thought one day, wouldn’t it be cool, wouldn’t it be cool to have that power to make it an unofficial anthem? We kept thinking and thinking, and eventually things...Well, you see, things just started to happen.Someone on Lions social media liked the idea so much that they brought in the 2018 New Year the right way:Then they hid a message for us. Then it got on the PA at Ford Field. And then it wouldn’t go away. And it didn’t go away.AND IT WOULDN’T GO AWAYAnd now we are here, dear reader. Now we are here.(For the record, I’m sorry Mike.)Doubling back, I just need to add this. If the first line of the first paragraph above sounds like a lot of self-congratulation, then I’ll step in here a second and just try to say that it’s not. It’s just something that was on my mind. I like thinking about these things. I’m not trying to be important (BUT EXCUSE ME WHILE I WRITE A BUNCH OF WORDS ABOUT THIS), and honestly the connection of “Africa” to the Detroit Lions is something that took a lot of people, a lot of moving parts to happen, and safe to say it’s still not done. Traditions have to weather time, multiple generations and enough traction to keep going. Make it clear though. “Sweet Caroline” didn’t just pop up overnight to become the anthem of the Boston Red Sox. Flinging octopi onto the ice at Joe Louis Arena takes gumption, extended effort to circumvent bans and a good fishmonger or five. Texas A&M University didn’t get a trademark on “The 12th Man” and then use licensing to lord over the Seattle Seahawks and soap companies without a proper origin story. In many ways, 2018 was the year of “Africa.” There was the Weezer cover, which was quickly topped by Pitbull and Rhea remixing the beat and chorus in “Ocean to Ocean.” The world was down for the song. It’s uplifting and overly positive in a world of bitter cold and irony. The song itself shouldn’t really be this Miles Killebrew Jersey White , but there is great joy to be found in the simple chorus, the enchanting beat, or just the longing phrases that cut somewhere deep in a non-burnished part of my soul. And now we’re going hard, H.A.M. even, to see this song attached to the Lions, for good or for ill. There’s no real reason to see it happen beyond that it should, and therefore must, happen. Will the greater public burn out on “Africa”? Probably. But it is our thing in a different way. It’s not just the catchy song of the moment, but something that was set out to become a tradition; maybe subconsciously, I don’t know.Do the Lions need to be winning for this to become a thing? Not really, even if it is victory music, but it’s not like the Red Sox were winning rings when Neil Diamond became a staple of Fenway Park.Does it need to have a reason? Does it need to have a connection to Detroit at all? Why? You find a thing and you make it your own. That’s how the best traditions work. Someone goes and finds an old shoe and spins a story about it, and before you know it that Magic Holiday Shoe is hanging on the mantle every Christmas at Uncle Craig’s house. The reason becomes secondary, and then it becomes forgotten altogether. Time fades that legend, but it births something new and you accept it as fact. Think for a moment.Do you know why there are trees raised up and decorated for Christmas? Why families hang stockings by the fireplace? Do you know why we all sing “For Auld Lang Syne” at the birth of a New Year? Are the reasons you know or find verified fact or are they additional myths and legends? Would understanding the true reasons to these things help you enjoy the tradition more, or would knowledge diminish it?For that reason, I want to see this survive. But I felt like the world needed an explanation, at least for the sake of record-keeping, before it’s washed away in the sea of information. I don’t know if it’ll suffice, or if this will drift away, but until it does I would hope you join in too.
Green Bay could strike gold with the former Washington linebacker Cheap Rashan Gary Jersey , who would bring a reliable presence on the edge at a significant — but not exorbitant — price tag."Kyler Fackrell. Reggie Gilbert. Kendall Donnerson. Those are the three outside linebackers who are likely to be on the Green Bay Packers’ 90-man roster when free agency begins on March 13th. Clay Matthews is scheduled to be a free agent, and Nick Perry would seem to be a legitimate candidate to be released, likely with a post-June 1st designation. That leaves the aforementioned trio holding down the fort.It goes without saying that the Packers will not and cannot enter training camp in 2019 with those three players making up the entire depth chart at the position. Some combination of draft picks and free agents — both veterans and undrafted rookies — will bolster the unit, providing additional depth and playmaking ability.Based on what will likely be available on the open market and when the Packers are on the clock in the 2019 NFL Draft, the team needs to make a serious run at signing former Washington linebacker Preston Smith.Smith’s gameSmith was a second-round draft pick in 2015 out of Mississippi State, and he’s a perfect size for a large edge rusher at 6-foot-5 and around 260-265 pounds. He has not missed a game in his career, and has started each contest over the last three campaigns. As a rookie, Smith played just under 50% of Washington’s defensive snaps, rotating in and out of the lineup with Trent Murphy. In that time, however, he recorded an impressive eight sacks, including three forced fumbles. His sack total dipped to 4.5 in his second year Rashan Gary Jersey Womens , despite an uptick in playing time to 70%, but his QB hit total and tackle totals both increased. His most productive season as a pass-rusher was in 2017, when he recorded eight sacks again and registered 21 hits before seeing those numbers drop a bit to four and 16 last season. Those numbers won’t leap off the page like the double-digit sack seasons posted by players like Dee Ford, but they certainly suggest that Smith can continue improving. His age — he will turn 27 in November — suggests the same.NFL.com even mentioned Smith as a good fit for the Packers on Thursday:As always, take PFF ratings with a grain of salt. Still, this indicates that he is an excellent all-around player, able to hold up against the run equally as well as he rushes the passer. This is of course critical for a Packers defense that finished 23rd in rushing DVOA and was particularly gashed on the edges, finishing 31st or 32nd on DVOA for runs outside the tackles. Finally, Smith has played primarily on the left side of the defense in Washington. This is notable since Kyler Fackrell lined up mostly on the right side. It is not uncommon for pass-rushers to switch sides, but it’s worth noting that neither player would have to move to a different spot in the starting lineup compared to what they’re used to.Smith’s asking priceAs always, price is a consideration. The Packers currently have an estimated $35 million in salary cap space, per Over the Cap’s estimates. Cutting Perry as a post-June 1st release won’t free up any more room for the spring Rashan Gary Green Bay Packers Jersey , but it would add nearly $11 million to the team’s cap room in June; therefore, the Packers could feasibly use up a big chunk of that $35 million in free agency before using the extra cap space freed up by releasing Perry to help sign the rookie draft class and give the team more wiggle room heading into the summer. In addition, a possible release of Tramon Williams would give the team another $4.75 million to play with, bringing their total space on March 13th to about $40M.Therefore, the Packers could reasonably use $25 million of that $40 million for free agents, leaving $15 million left over with another $11 million coming free in June. Say they re-sign Bashaud Breeland and land the big fish in the safety pond, Earl Thomas, with cap hits around $5 million and $10 million for the first year of their deals, respectively. That still leaves another $10 million to play with — and that should be a good number for Smith.Spotrac estimates his reasonable market value this year at about $11 million per year. Interestingly, they used Nick Perry’s 2017 contract as one of the comparisons, and Smith compares favorably to Perry in most of the comparisons Spotrac uses. Perry’s deal was worth $11.8 million per season for five years; Smith could very well come in right around that mark.Furthermore, there is far less reason to worry about Smith’s availability than there is and was for Perry Rashan Gary Jersey 2019 , who has dealt with numerous minor and major injuries. He has never played all 16 games in a single season, and has missed at least four games in four of his seven years in the league. Smith has never sat out a single game as a pro.In essence, the Packers could free up all the cap space they need to sign Smith by cutting Perry, and they would get a more reliable, available player for about the same price in 2019. What about draft picks?Sure, the Packers should have a set of talented edge rushers to choose from when the 12th pick rolls around. Between Clelin Ferrell, Jachai Polite, Brian Burns, and Montez Sweat, there should be options there. However, bringing in Smith should not preclude the Packers double-dipping by selecting one of these prospects early on; in fact, doing so would allow that player to take some time developing before being asked to take over as a starter.Furthermore White Rashan Gary Jersey , if the Packers were to draft a player like Polite or Burns, that rookie may need to work into the lineup gradually as a situational pass-rusher before being able to hold up as an every-down player. Smith’s ability to defend the run would be invaluable in that case, allowing the team to work a rookie in gradually before becoming an every-down player in 2020, when Fackrell is scheduled to become a free agent. All told, Smith looks to be an excellent combination of value, reliability, and fit for the Packers, and though he will surely demand substantial money, signing him should not require a truly massive contract. That should make him one of the most tantalizing options for the Packers among this year’s free agent pass-rushers. Aaron Rodgers engineered yet another magical comeback for the Green Bay Packers Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers.Rodgers led the Packers 81 yards over the final minute and change of regulation to setup a 27-yard game-winning field goal from Mason Crosby to stun a 49ers team that held a 30-23 lead with three minutes left to play.Crosby bounced back after his wretched week in Detroit where he missed five kicks a week ago to go 4-for-4 against the 49ers, including the game-winner that allowed Green Bay to escape with a 33-30 victory. It appeared as though the 49ers had done enough to hold on as DeForest Buckner sacked Rodgers on a third-and-15 at the Green Bay 19-yard line. However, the sack was negated and a fresh set of downs given to the Packers after an illegal contact penalty against Richard Sherman made it first-and-10 instead of fourth-and-19.Rodgers knocked down the open door, scrambling for for 21 yards out near midfield and spiked the ball to stop the clock with 20 seconds remaining. He rattled off quick completions to Adams for 8 Cheap Rashan Gary Jersey , Equanimious St. Brown for 19 and Adams again for 19 to move to the 49ers 9-yard line to set up the shot attempt for Crosby to pull out the victory.C.J. Beathard tossed a pair of touchdowns to Marquise Goodwin, and Raheem Mostert and Matt Breida combined for 148 rushing yards as the 49ers had the Packers on the ropes.Beathard led the 49ers out of a 17-7 hole in Lambeau Field, going on a 23-6 scoring run until the Packers late rally dealt a crushing blow.Trailing 30-23, Rodgers would zip a 38-yard completion to Adams to move to the 49ers 20-yard line as they moved into scoring position. Rodgers and Adams would then finish off the drive with a 16-yard touchdown in the back corner of the end zone to tie the game with just under two minutes to play.Beathard and the 49ers took one took many bites at the Goodwin apple as a deep shot to the 49ers speedster was picked off by Kevin King with 1:07 left to play to set up the Packers death blow at the wire. Both teams scored on their opening possessions of the game. Breida’s 3-yard touchdown run capped a seven-play, 75-yard opening salvo for the 49ers only to be quickly matched with a four-play, 77-yard Packers drive that ended with a 2-yard Ty Montgomery touchdown run on a throw behind the line of scrimmage.A 29-yard Mason Crosby field goal and 9-yard touchdown pass to Adams gave the Packers a 17-7 lead late in the first quarter.Beathard would go over the top of the Packers defense for a 67-yard touchdown to Goodwin to close the gap to 17-14 before the end of the first quarter. After another Crosby field goal, Beathard and Goodwin would connect again on a 30-yard touchdown strike as the 49ers grabbed a 21-20 lead.Field goals of 46, 44 and 43 yards for Robbie Gould and a 51-yard field goal by Crosby brought the game to 30-23 before the final frenzy.Rodgers finished with 425 passing yards on the night and three receivers – Adams (132), Jimmy Graham (104) and Marquez Valdez-Scantling (103) – went over 100 yards receiving for the Packers.Beathard finished with 245 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for San Francisco.

(AP) — Blake Bortles is no longer Jacksonville’s starting quarterback.Whether he regains the job in the next week is anybody’s guess.Bortles fumbled on the team’s third play of each half Max Scharping Jersey 2019 , leading to 10 points and his benching in a 20-7 loss to AFC South rival Houston on Sunday.Coach Doug Marrone yanked Bortles after the second turnover — his eighth in three games — and gave former Cleveland starter Cody Kessler a shot.Marrone gave no indication afterward if Bortles or Kessler would be under center when the reeling Jaguars (3-4) play a “home game” against Philadelphia (3-4) in London next week.“It’s open,” Marrone said. “Who’s the starter at right tackle? Who’s the starter at center? Who’s the starter at receiver? Who’s the starter? Everything is open. We’ve lost three straight games and we can’t stop shooting ourselves in the foot for lack of a better expression. … We’ve got to do something, but the first thing we’ve got to do is stop turning the damn ball over. Period. That would be the positive of how we can build.”Jacksonville’s third consecutive lopsided loss triggered quarterback indecision and heated commotion .When the locker room doors opened for media members, Calais Campbell could be seen holding back fellow defensive end Yannick Ngakoue. It was carry-over from an emotional postgame that included screaming, shouting and finger pointing.“You all walk in here, you all see how it is in here, you all see how we vibe with each other, you all see how we vibe toward the coaches, you all see how it is,” cornerback Jalen Ramsey said. “It is no secret what’s going on here right now. Be frustrated all week. Change something,” defensive tackle Malik Jackson said. “Change something you need to do. We need to look ourselves in the mirror and just fix it. I can’t sit here and tell you what we need to fix, what we need to do, what needs to be done. I don’t know. I just know that we need to be where we’re supposed to be and just . something needs to change.”The Texans (4-3) don’t need to change anything after a fourth consecutive victory gave them a one-game lead in the division.Deshaun Watson threw for a touchdown after making the 800-mile trip to Jacksonville on a private bus to avoid potential problems that flying and cabin pressure might pose to his bruised lung and injured ribs. Lamar Miller ran for 100 yards and a score . And the defense did the rest, forcing three turnovers and sacking Kessler four times.Houston hosts Miami (4-3) on Thursday night.“We were down and out and everybody was counting us out,” Texans linebacker Whitney Mercilus said. “The thing is, we have guys on this team who understand that early on it doesn’t matter. We just put our heads down and kept working and now we have to continue to do the same thing.”Here are some other things we learned about the Texans and Jaguars:HAL STARTSTexans safety Andre Hal, who returned to practice this week following treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma, was in the starting lineup. Hal was diagnosed with the disease in May and immediately began treatment. He received the news of his remission last month. It was cool seeing everyone kind of show some love to me.”ONE-HANDED CATCHDeAndre Hopkins won several one-on-one matchups against Ramsey. His best was a one-handed catch for 31 yards along the sideline in the first quarter.“That catch at the beginning of the game really got us going,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said. “He made some big plays for us. That’s Hop.”ANOTHER SHUTOUTThe Jaguars failed to score in the first half for the third straight week, the first time they’ve done that in franchise history.
